Name: Why genetic tests are needed and how they will help maintain health?
There is no universal health support system, diet, or sport that suits everyone. Today, genetic tests come to the rescue. With their help, you can find out which nutrition and lifestyle strategies are right for you, and what you are not predisposed to.

We love to share our successes in health care. In friendly conversations, we boast about what nutrition systems suited us, why we managed to lose 10-20-30 kg, which helped to improve the condition of the skin and strengthen the muscles, and how we managed to cope with depression, and chronic fatigue. But it is completely wrong to try on yourself what helped the neighbor. If someone says I lost weight on the keto diet or I eat 5 meals a day and the weight goes away, it does not automatically mean that the same thing will happen to you. Yes, there are universal health strategies: for example, quitting smoking and sleeping more. But even within the framework of a healthy lifestyle, different things are suitable for everyone (it is enough for someone to sleep for 6 hours, and for someone - for 9).

Why?

One good reason is genetics. The mutation of genes, their expression, the information they carry, and heredity play a big role in how our body absorbs trace elements, reacts to sports, accumulates and breaks down fats, absorbs vitamins, and so on. Not to mention the predisposition to various diseases and the work of different body systems: circulatory, hormonal, nervous, and bone-muscular. For example, the reaction to glucose is expressed in the fact that someone gets fat from the "look" at chocolate, and someone's body is calm about daily buns. You can get fat from a tomato or stay slim by eating chocolate. The body's reaction to sports in the form of splitting fats can also be different. It turns out that physical activity does not help everyone. Surely you have encountered complaints: "5 times a week I study, limit myself, and nothing helps!"

Genetic tests

Today, the medical services market offers the use of genetic tests to help develop an individual health route. Studies of different genes in each area of the body give specialists a broad picture of what foods are suitable for you, how trace elements are absorbed, whether you need dietary supplements or enough, for example, fats from food. And only your body knows what and in what quantities it needs. A prime example: is the Eskimos. Genetically, they are sharpened for the consumption of predominant animal food. If a European begins to eat like an Eskimo, very soon he will get big health problems. Because his body is not able to cope with so much animal protein and fats and will suffer from the fact that he was practically deprived of dietary fiber.

What do the tests show?

It depends on how detailed the test is and how many genes it's looking at. You can look at how your metabolism works (including the reaction to caffeine, alcohol, and other substances), how vital substances are absorbed, what is the body's reaction to sugar (glucose tolerance), whether the body breaks down fats in response to physical exertion, how fat metabolism occurs, how mitochondria work (whether they produce enough energy or need additional sources since the work of mitochondria is impaired), how the body reacts to different drugs, predisposition to various diseases, what intolerances there are (there can be many discoveries, for example, that you should not eat something generally recognized useful) and so on. A genetic test can be an excellent help in compiling a diet, choosing training (you will find out whether you need more strength, cardio, or stretching, what is useless to do, and what needs to be done in a dosed manner), the appointment of vitamin complexes (the combination of vitamins and minerals you need).

What to do with the results?

A genetic test can be an excellent biohacker tool and reveal many opportunities for maintaining health and youth. But it is important that the results are interpreted by professionals. If you are not an expert, you should not make appointments to yourself, although it is certainly interesting to get acquainted with the test results. Usually, the results of the genetic test in the laboratory are sent in the form of an electronic document or printed instructions. My genetics, a participant of the Biohacking Conference Moscow 2021conference, creates colorful books for customers with color illustrations, which describe test data (metabolism of various substances, intolerances, psychological dependencies, eating behavior, taste, cholesterol levels, sports potential, the need for vitamins, and so on) and recommendations for nutrition, sports, beat procedures, taking vitamins, etc. This book will be useful to you and yours. descendants, however, if you want to use the data, then come with her to an appointment with a specialist (from the center or to your doctor/nutritionist).
