According to Odobone magazine, the researchers' camera captured this rare bird. The bird was first brought on record in 1882, after which the bird has never been seen.

John C. Mittermeyer, director of the Missing Bird Program at the American Bird Conservancy and co-head of an eight-member mission, said: "Finding something that hasn't been sad for a long time and you're thinking it's gone extinct and then you know it's not, it looks like you've got a unicorn."

This team of researchers is part of an effort to find the missing birds.

The mission aims to rediscover 150 birds that have not been declared extinct but have not been seen for more than a decade.
